Donald Judd joined the McDonald Observatory’s Board of Visitors in February of 1989. His participation through fundraising for the Observatory’s Spectroscopic Survey Telescope (SST) helped to increase knowledge and understanding of the universe. With its 11-meter (433 inch mirror), the Hobby-Eberle Telescope is one of the world’s largest optical telescopes and was designed specifically for spectroscopy, the decoding of light from stars and galaxies to study their properties.
