The found object in this relief is a stainless steel reversed letter O from a commercial sign that is centrally placed in a horizontal orientation. The space between the top and bottom edges of the relief and the outer edge of the oval measures eighteen and a half inches; from the side edges of the relief to the outer edge of the oval, seventeen and a quarter inches. As with untitled, 1992, the sides of the relief, unlike the face, are painted a cadmium red light acrylic that does not contain sand.
This relief is related to another in the Ranch Office that contains metal [untitled, 1992], in that the edge of the metal is flush front and defines a particular area of the surface. It is also similar to a 1962 painting in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which has a reversed yellow Plexiglas letter O inset into a cadmium red light oil on Liquitex and sand on a Masonite surface.
