In the early 1990s, Donald Judd made a group of works constructed in Douglas fir plywood having the same form, dimensions and configuration. The works are open to the front with one vertical plane bisecting the work into two equal halves, left and right, and again bisecting the internal space horizontally on the right side only.  Judd chose to line the back of each work with opaque, colored plexiglass using purple, red, green or amber, respectively.

An earlier work from 1985, having the same configuration made in aluminum, measuring 10 x 40 x 10 inches and having a red plexiglass back, is permanently installed at Casa Perez.  These works illustrate Judd’s interest in material, space, and color.
