Yasmil Raymond, Associate Curator at The Museum of Modern Art, Randy Kennedy, Director of Special Projects at Hauser & Wirth, in conversation with artist Larry Bell on the use of industrial materials and process in art.
This talk is part of the Spring 2018 public programs in New York that explore aspects of Donald Judd’s work. The talk series coincides with 15 x 105 x 15, an exhibition of extruded aluminum works by Judd on the ground floor of 101 Spring Street. All events are free and open to the public.
Larry Bell has been a working artist since the late 1950s, making artwork in glass, on canvas and on paper in his Taos, New Mexico and Venice, California studios. He is widely identified as an early participant in the Los Angeles “Light and Space” movement.
Randy Kennedy is the Director of Special Projects at Hauser & Wirth. He has written about the art world since 2005. He joined the New York Times in 1992 and has been a Metro reporter, Public Lives columnist, and writer for the New York Times Magazine. He is the author of Subwayland: Adventures in the World Beneath New York and Presidio.
Yasmil Raymond is the Associate Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art. She was previously a curator at Dia Art Foundation, New York, 2009-2013. From 2004 to 2009, Raymond was associate curator at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis. Raymond is a contributor to numerous publications and periodicals, where she has written about the work of Mircea Cantor, Cao Fei, Mark Manders, Rivane Neuenschwander, and Rirkrit Tiravanija, among others. Raymond received a B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, New York.
