A conversation with Ann Temkin, the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and Caitlin Murray, Director of Archives and Programs, on the exhibition Judd. This conversation includes discussion of the role of the Donald Judd Papers and his installed spaces in New York and Marfa, Texas in the development of Judd, the first major retrospective dedicated to the artist’s work in the United States in over three decades. This program is presented in conjunction with Chinati Weekend.
Ann Temkin is the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. She is currently preparing the exhibition Matisse’s Red Studio and a multi-authored anthology of essays entitled Women at MoMA: The First Generation. In addition to Judd, she most recently curated the exhibitions Studio Visit: Selected Gifts from Agnes Gund (2018), Picasso Sculpture (2015), and Robert Gober: The Heart Is Not a Metaphor (2014). Temkin assumed the role of Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture in 2008, after joining The Museum of Modern Art in 2003 as Curator. From 1990 to 2003, Ms. Temkin was the Muriel and Philip Berman Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Temkin received a B.A. from Harvard University, and a PhD in the history of art from Yale University.
