War Resisters League 100 Years

100 Years of Resistance to War and the Causes of War
October 19-21, 2023
101 Spring Street
New York, NY

Judd Foundation presents partner programs with the War Resisters League (WRL) on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of the antiwar organization. The exhibition, organized by WRL, introduces some of the remarkable activists who shaped WRL and a few of the myriad events the organization initiated or joined. Through informational panels and timeline of the history of the organization, visitors are invited to reflection on where we have been and continue to inspire the ongoing struggle for peace and justice.

On Saturday, October 21 at 1:00pm War Resisters League historians will offer a special walk-through as part of Open House New York, with highlights from the history and first-person stories of WRL.

About War Resisters League

Founded October 19, 1923, War Resisters League is the oldest secular pacifist organization in the United States and a chapter of War Resisters’ International. Early members — socialist, religious, atheist, suffragist, anarchist — developed a militant pacifism that has been reshaped by the visions and strategies of each generation. Today’s members remain committed to revolutionary nonviolence to end war and its root causes, including racism, sexism, and other forms of exploitation.

Donald Judd first became involved in the War Resisters League in 1968 through his wife Julie Finch, whose ancestor is WRL founder Jessie Wallace Hughan. Judd hosted a benefit exhibition for the organization in the ground floor space of 101 Spring Street in 1986.
