Donald Judd designed the poster for his first solo exhibition at Leo Castelli Gallery, New York (February 5–March 2, 1966). Artist-designed exhibition posters were a signature part of the program for this influential gallery, which represented artists such as Lee Bontecou, Dan Flavin, Claes Oldenburg, James Rosenquist, and Cy Twombly. Judd exhibited regularly with Leo Castelli in dozens of solo and group shows through the 1980s.
