Agave Garden Opening Talk

The Agave Garden features more than twenty plants native to the Trans-Pecos region. The selection of species was based on their use by indigenous peoples of the region for food, beverage, fiber, and cultural ceremonies. The garden was designed and planted in partnership with Jim Martinez. The Agave Garden includes two benches designed by Donald Judd for La Mansana de Chinati intended to provide a contemplative place for visitors to spend time in the garden.

Agave Festival Marfa is an annual festival celebrating the agave and its influence on culture through food, film, music and science. The Festival treats the agave as the indicator species for a region that is binational, multilingual and deeply informed by indigenous culture. It brings communities together through outstanding free and accessible programming including talks by preeminent historians, botanists, artists, anthropologists and archaeologists.
