Judd Foundation is pleased to announce an exhibition of furniture by Donald Judd is now on view at Hyundai Card Storage in Seoul. Curated by Flavin Judd, the Artistic Director of Judd Foundation, it is the first exhibition of Judd’s furniture to take place in South Korea.
With a focus on Judd’s ideas about space, color, and materials, the exhibition sheds new light on his practice, which transcended the categories of art, architecture, and design. The gallery layout is organized after Judd’s own working and living spaces, offering visitors an immersive experience of the intimate connection between his life and work. On view are thirty-eight pieces of furniture by Judd in wood, metal, and plywood.
Three sets of prints by Judd, which illustrate his investigations of color and structure, are also included in the presentation. The silkscreens and woodcuts produced between the 1970s and 1990s reveal his sustained inquiry into form and space across his artistic practice. The drawings detail the materials, dimensions, and structural concepts that informed his furniture production.
